BDT - FORCED INDUCTION FOR THE 3.8 NA

This is the simplest forced induction system ever devised. The reason we got the T-Bird and Cougar - to build a kit for the FORD 3.8, 4.0, 4.2 and other related motors. The BDT is universal in application. Intended for 3 motor sizes 1-4 Liter, 4-6 Liter and 6-8 Liter, each unit is specific to its range of operation.

By using the step-up ratio of the alternator pulley, combined with a second pulley mounted at the rear of the alternator, the high impeller speeds necessary for boost are easy to obtain.

The BDT mounts to the alternator, so by replacing your alternator with our custom unit the mounting system is complete.

For applications where there is no room to mount a pulley behind the Alternator – the unit can be mounted using a second pulley mounted to the front of the Alternator.

The installation is so simple, all you do is mount the custom alternator, then rotate the rear mounting flange on the alternator until the correct placement of the BDT is found--then tighten the bolts. The flange is adjustable 360 degrees.

On a Ford Mustang or T-Bird equipped with the 3.8 V6, the combo would be mounted in the stock location – and the BDT would reside immediately parallel to the Alternator – this would require that a few of the items that normally reside along the inside fender be moved.

The standard setup is designed for 5-6 PSI, but with simple pulley and bearing upgrades boost levels of **12-15 PSI can be reached.

Because this setup uses state-of-the-art custom turbocharger components, it is extremely efficient.

No need for a custom manifold, exhaust, wastegate, no lag, instant throttle response, etc.

A 2000cc engine will only require 7hp from the crank to drive this unit to make 5-6 PSI, so minimal parasitic losses means a huge amount of power when boosting.

The Standard BDT is 7.5" in diameter, so to see if you can fit one on your car, make an 8" circle out of cardboard and see if you can hold it next to your stock alternator--above it, below, in front, etc. If you can fit the 8" cardboard circle, you can use the alternator mounted BDT.

As for the Ford, T-bird, Cougar and other 3.8 Vehicles, it fits. It does require a little work to move some items along the inside fender for clearance.

Got a different car no problem - Check to see which alternator you have. Make sure there is 2" of room for a pulley behind the alternator on the opposite end from the existing pulley. That is measuring from the back of the alternator toward the firewall. Also measure width - the width you have available behind the alternator dictates max size of the pulley on the back of the alternator.

Depending on the application different styles of alternators will be sued to match the OEM style. In applications with high output alternators – the unit can be mounted using a second pulley on the front as previously mentioned.

There is also an option for a countershaft to be used to offset mount the unit and maintain the step up ratios.

In some applications a counterclock wise unit can be used. In cars like certain model Hondas, the unit can be mounted in the stock power steering location and an electric power steering pump can be used.

The unit is designed to go where other units, especially centrifugal superchargers, can’t. Does it work just like one, yes it does, only better!

The discharge is 2". The inlet is 3". We have units with 2.5" discharge and 4" inlets available at no extra charge.

Custom colors other than plain, are available as well. An additional two weeks is needed to manufacture custom versions. Each setup includes a boost gauge at no extra cost. Additional gauges are available as well.

Comes with a 1-year warranty on the BDT. Belts and alternator not covered under warranty. These alternators are brand new units.

The suggested retail on these systems is $1995.

We will be offering a limited number of setups for 1495.00 We have the capacity and the resources to supply support ware - fuel, timing, etc...

The package is intended as a DIY type install – nearly complete – but some attention to fuel and timing is required as well as connecting the unit to your intake system.

In any boosted/forced induction application, you will also need to add extra fuel and retard timing, their are many ways to do this and we offer many options: piggy back, stand alone and supplemental systems to address this. We also have several styles and sizes of universal intercoolers available.

With the 3.8 - some attention to the Head Gaskets is require - if your motor is tired and worn - do yourself a favor - replace the head gaskets. Also this model is not intended as a high boost application. It is for low to moderate boost - and it makes a serious difference. Soon as the kit is finished and tested we will post real world results.

Some custom fit applications are available – these are designed for use without an intercooler. The units are very efficient with minimal heat gain from such a low boost application, above 6 PSI intercooling should be considered.

In those applications where the unit is not a custom fit – the customer or installer will be required to connect various hard pipe and hose to properly install the unit.

Out of the box the unit can be installed and run. No lubrication or tapping into the oil system the unit uses high grade sealed aerospace bearings. It is simple and compact.

Delta (heat) rise is minimal with these units. In testing we have seen stock power levels in a Thunderbird SC – replacing the stock Eaton and running a BDT at less boost than the Eaton – the difference is heat! Running the BDT at the same boost as the Eaton will generate more power. The benefit is seen two fold – less heat and less power to drive the unit.

We also make an internal drive unit with a dedicated lubrication subsystem for the gear drive model and a forced air cooling subsystem with our internal belt drive units.

When adding an intercooler (not required for 6 PSI or less) the customer/installer will need to sort out the pipes and hoses, we do have various pipes and hoses available. We do carry our charge cooler - see HAUSBRAUEN for more details on it as well as other models of centrifugal forced induction.

In any forced induction application – boost is a force/power multiplier – the more base power you have, the greater your gain.
